The first came early. The stock was at $5.14 when our alert went out and reached $5.90 before 10:00 a.m., a 14.8% move. Then it came back for more, pushing to $6.15 just before 2:00 p.m. for a 19.6% move from our alert price.

There’s news behind it. The company announced a $20 million purchase order for 200 of its unmanned ground vehicles, subject to conditions that have not yet been satisfied.

VisionWave completed a 1-for-20 reverse stock split that took effect Tuesday morning. That move reduced shares outstanding from roughly 47.5 million to about 2.4 million.

That is a very small number of shares for a Nasdaq-listed company. When a float gets that thin, it doesn’t take much volume to move the price, and moves in both directions tend to come fast.

Two solid ones from this morning’s list.

WHLR was at $4.97 when the watchlist went out and spiked to $8.71 just after 10:00 a.m., a 75.3% move. It came back down through the day but still closed at $5.44, up 9.5%.

BENF ran from $2.23 to a high of $3.14, good for 40.8%. It held most of that into the close at $2.90, finishing up 30%.

WHLR was at $4.97 when the list went out and ran all the way to $8.71, a 75.3% move. It’s given back a good chunk of that but is still trading at $5.87, up 18.1% from where we flagged it.

BENF has gone from $2.23 to $3.04, good for 36.3%, and it looks like it could have more room this afternoon.

The reasons we flagged it haven’t changed. Pelareorep holds FDA Fast Track designation in three different cancers. Recent feedback from the FDA points to a potential accelerated approval path in colorectal cancer. And preliminary data from the randomized Phase 2 trial is due by the end of this year.

Today’s breakout alert is NASDAQ:ONCY. 

Oncolytics Biotech Inc. (Nasdaq: ONCY) is a clinical-stage company developing pelareorep, an immunotherapy designed to wake up the immune system against tumors that normally ignore it. The company is focused on gastrointestinal cancers, including colorectal, anal and pancreatic, and pelareorep holds FDA Fast Track designation in all three.

We first flagged ONCY in July. The story has moved since then.

In August the FDA gave the company feedback on its colorectal cancer trial that could open the door to accelerated approval down the road. And this month Oncolytics reported early lab results pairing pelareorep with a newer class of cancer drugs called RAS inhibitors.

Preliminary data from the randomized Phase 2 colorectal trial is targeted for the end of this year. H.C. Wainwright has a Buy rating and a $5.00 price target on a stock trading under $1.00.
